Local Lynchburg area farmers are banding together to
bring YOU fresh, affordable, and extremely tasty seasonal fruits and
veggies. CSA is a system in which customers support a local farm by
paying in advance for agricultural products. This reduces the financial
risks for the farmer because the costs of seeds and planting
crops are covered in advance by consumers. Throughout the growing
season, CSA members receive a portion of the farm's harvest each week.
Members share the financial risks and the bounty of the harvest -- if it
is a successful growing season, they receive a lot of food; if there are
fewer crops, they receive less. Members are also encouraged to visit the
farm and some even volunteer there. Lynchburg Grows bags these fruits
and vegetables equally among registered CSA participants. With a
colorful and diverse array of seasonal produce every week, these bags
can feed a family of four and will help your family reach the goal of 5
servings a day of veggies. Back to Top
Lynchburg Grows will develop six community gardens that
have been designated by the City of Lynchburg in low-income
neighborhoods. Lynchburg Grows will work with members of the community
on these gardens, assisting with community revitalization efforts and
installing new, workable garden space that will offer access to fresh,
healthy produce. The development of these gardens will be used for
personal food production and to create new economic and entrepreneurial
opportunities at the local farmer's market. The Roots and Shoots
intergenerational gardening program will bring together young children,
called "shoots", and older members of the community, called "roots", to
share in the joys of gardening.

Expanding on existing children's gardening programs at
five targeted local elementary schools, Lynchburg Grows will incorporate
hands-on urban agriculture and a food systems and nutrition education
curriculum. This curriculum will tie in with the Virginia Standards of
Learning and provide nutrition training through classroom lessons,
tastings, and cooking demonstrations to over 560 children annually.

Designed for disabled and low-income individuals to
create self-reliance and food security through urban agriculture, the
vocational training program is a unique job training program that will
be integral to Lynchburg Grows. Intended to empower disadvantaged
individuals who have been historically underserved in conventional
education systems, the vocational training program emphasizes technical
skills, life skills, and support and placement services.
Every Saturday, Lynchburg Grows sells fresh fruits,
veggies, and flowers at the Community Market on Main Street in Lynchburg. We are located inside the market building. The products we
sell are all grown, harvested, and cleaned at Lynchburg Grows.
Come and pick up some fresh roses, hot peppers, or tomatoes for your
friends and family!
