Appalachian Harvest We are proud to announce our partnership with another regional non-profit, Appalachian Sustainable Development, to secure food in Southwest and Central Virginia. the network of organic growers of Appalachian Harvest in Abingdon, Virginia will help us meet our goal of supplying 60 full shares or the equivalent of 120 half shares by July. our dream is to expand to 80 full shares or 160 half shares by the fall of 2008.
Camp Kum-Ba-Yah Camp Kum-Ba-Yah is a 501 (c)(3) organization that operates a summer day camp program, a full year earth education program, a challenge course for community groups, and a variety of family recreational and educational programs. The summer camp serves 450 children between the ages of five and fifteen each summer. 40-50% of campers come from low-income families or at-risk situations and receive scholarships to attend.
Growing Power, Inc. Growing Power, Inc. is a nationwide non-profit organization and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds and the environments in which they live through the development of Community Food Systems.
Lynchburg Department of Parks and Recreation Lynchburg Parks and Recreation will provide support at their seven community centers and at their summer camp program by developing summer-long agriculture projects at each center.
Lynchburg Center for Independent Living An organization committed to assisting persons with disabilities and working toward living as independently as possible.
DePaul Family Services A program providing adult day-care support services for persons with mental retardation and other profound disabilities.
Daily Bread A local food pantry and soup kitchen that provides nutritious meals to 100-150 low-income individuals daily.
Jubilee Center A program providing educational, recreational, and vocational opportunities to at-risk youth in an impoverished and crime-ridden Lynchburg neighborhood.
The Center for Community Development and Social Justice (CCDSJ) at Lynchburg College CCDSJ provides a means for Lynchburg College students and faculty, the City of Lynchburg, and surrounding communities to collaborate and strategically use resources to improve quality of life and to provide access to enriching opportunities that promote social justice.
Lynchburg College Bonners Program Bonners Program participants make a two-year commitment of service. The Bonners Program exemplifies the College’s commitment to engaging students in community work and fostering a requisite sense of responsibility and concern for others. The Leaders program also encourages non-profit entrepreneurship skills in students who demonstrate a commitment to connecting their service experiences to their future professional lives.
Junior League of Lynchburg (JLL) Junior League, an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, develops the potential of women and improves the community through the action of trained volunteers.
Smart Moves
 

Smart Moves, a community initiative coordinated by the Junior League of Lynchburg, works to fight childhood obesity and encourage family wellness throughout Central Virginia. The mission of the Smart Moves Family Wellness Campaign is to (1) increase public awareness of childhood obesity as an epidemic in Central Virginia and (2) identify and develop resources, strategies, and programs that will encourage community-wide healthy lifestyle changes for individuals, children and families.
